Yes ! I have been thinking and affirming in my Group repeatedly, that “inextricable connection linking all humanity” Brene so well upholds, is even more implicitly a Principle of Unity.
That humankind-connectedness transcends what can be measured, quantified, upheld by data, research or by science, derives from a constitutive INHERENT CONNECTION that transcends the human level and related to our Source.
The data and the feels, the phenomena of groups, can—yes—-be seen as spiritual, as other than material. But all this mere phenomenal experience or evidence is lacking in its essence we so well affirm each Sunday.
This simple-seeming essence lies in seeing every person—-and HENCE humanity—Inherently Connected—not just “horizontally, everywhere around the globe, but “vertically”——derived from Source—and THUS the relatedness of all humanity.
This is not an abstruse thought or aspect of theology. We weekly are affirming it as part of the great song of Peace so very widely sung:
“With God as Creator,
Family all are we.”
As my most impressive teacher back in college day “of yore,” so often said to all of us, in olden terminology:
There I S no “brotherhood-of-man”
W I T H O U T the “Fatherhood-of-God”
As now improved by genderless employment of language, we have the precise Truth expressed in our, now widespread, “Peace Song.”
My point: Without that quintessential VERTICAL CONNECTION to our SOURCE, as expressions of divinity—-the notion of a horizontal “oneness of humanity”— however deemed ‘inextricable”——is only a great HUMANISM, not a true conception of our deeper INHERENT CONNECTION—that is basic to our nature as a SPIRITUAL REALITY.
