Diwali /Divali/Deepavali/Dashain is the autumn Festival of Lights, a celebration of the triumph of Good over uh...not so good, and the lifting of the veil of spiritual darkness. Largest and longest celebration of the Hindu year, it includes many different Pujas (purifications, rituals, offerings, exchanges) honoring the Goddesses and Gods, with family and community feasts and celebrations. Laxmi, the Goddess of abundance, with Her blessings of protection and prosperity, is invited into people's homes and lives with lamps and lights and beautiful colors. We will create our own Unity Sacred Flow celebration in honor of Diwali, including meditations, songs and dances to Laxmi, Durga (the Great Divine Mother Goddess) and Saraswati, the Goddess of song, dance, poetry and everything that flows! We might make and decorate our own ghee lamps, flower garlands, thika and/or bindi (forehead blessings/ornaments) or mendhi (henna tattoos!). Did we mention SWEETS!? They're traditional! Feel free to wear Indian dress & bling and bring any other additions (décor, etc.)! Join us as we kindle the Lights of Peace and Beauty together!
