New Bulletin Board by the Trail
The trail sign began at UCP's envisioning retreat in July 2019, when Chris Egle proposed his idea of having a bulletin board for our trail devotee neighbors. Victoria purchased the actual boards, complete with locking doors, and Mark set to work designing and building the structure from materials already in hand.
Besides the bulletin boards, the only other item purchased in its making was a pack of eight screws. The wood came from lumber lying around the Smith-Sage homestead, some of it from a treehouse Mark had built for his daughters when they were children. The structure took shape in Mark's and Katja's carport and driveway over several weeks, with mosquitos as frequent witnesses, and Mark discovered eight or nine things he would not do again...It took him two weeks to dig the post holes by the trail head. Dayle and Tom lent their brains and brawn to the actual installation, where the structure slid so neatly off the truck and into the holes that they didn't get to play with the tackle and pulley they'd brought for erecting it. Two small trees were honored and then removed to allow for the use of the reverse of the board as well. There are rumors of a bench and maybe other outdoor furniture or exercise equipment on the way.
